Introduction

The Sindhi cultural group were the second largest ethnic group in Pakistan. Most of the Sindhi lived in the Sind province bordering India and the Indian Ocean. The Sindhi people are named after the Sindhu (Indus) River and are one of the oldest people groups in Pakistan. They prefer to call themselves pukka or "real" Sindhi. Most of Sindhi live in Pakistan and most Hindus live in India.

In 1947, when Pakistan became an independent Muslim country the Sindhi and Hindus lived together in the same region. Most Sindhi people were originally Hindus but the arrival of Muslim Arabs in the 7th century influenced the Sindhi people and culture.

The Sindhi people are very industrious people: very full of the spirit of faith and courage. The Sindhi people have a variety of sub-groups within the name Sindhi people.
